Understanding the Cyclist Only Sign

Cyclist Only

Where: At the beginning of a road, lane, or specific section of a road that is designated exclusively for cyclists. Commonly found on cycle paths, shared-use routes, parks, or road shoulders designed for bicycle use.

Purpose: To indicate that the road, lane, or section is reserved only for cyclists. It ensures the safety of cyclists by separating them from motor vehicle traffic, helping maintain an orderly flow of movement and preventing accidents involving cyclists and other road users.

Action Required by Driver: Do not drive or park any motor vehicle on the road or section marked by this sign. Cyclists may use only the part of the road indicated by this sign.

  • Ride carefully — cyclists should keep to the correct side of the path and remain aware of other cyclists or pedestrians nearby.
  • No motorist entry — motorists must not enter or obstruct these areas under any circumstances.
